Around 17.36 lakh students of Maharashtra who appeared in Class 10 examinations took the Maharashtra Aptitude Test - Kalchachni. It is an online aptitude test which is conducted in order to evaluate the interest of students with respect to different streams of study such as science, commerce, arts etc.

As per the data obtained, it came across that about 21% of students who took the test showcased their interest in joining the courses offered under the Commerce stream. Last year, students evinced their interest in Fine Arts but for this academic year, commerce is the preferred choice of participating students.

The online aptitude test Kalchachni is conducted by the Maharashtra State Boardof Secondary and Higher Secondary Education to check students’ inclination in streams such as Sciences, Arts, Commerce, Agriculture, Fine Arts, Technical, and Health Sciences.

This test is one of its kind and is an initiative of the State Education Board and the Shyamchi Aai Foundation that helps school students to choose the right career path and make informed decisions for themselves.Kalchachni is a Marathi word which means inclination test. Maharashtra government introduced the aptitude because of the following reasons:

  • Students often make incorrect career choice due to the urgency to start earning.
  • Most of the student's career choices are driven by parental/peer pressure without the understanding of career options suitable for them.
  • Most of the students have no knowledge of institutes offering courses for which they have an aptitude.
