  • The seat count for open category candidates will also get doubled.
Mumbai Degree College 1st Merit List Today, No Quota in Minority Institutes

Mumbai University will release the first merit list for degree college admission on Tuesday i.e. 19th June. However, the merit list will be rather different than what students have witnessed over the years.

As per the reports, the merit list will have no names of backward category candidates (OBC) in the minority institutes. Also, the seat counts for open category candidates will get doubled. Some of the prominent Mumbai University colleges that will release their merit list are:

Officials of one of the popular south Mumbai college stated that they have received the university directive and the merit list has been prepared on the basis of these directives following which open category students will get around 1,000 seats. It will also lead to changes in the reservation policy of minority colleges. For instance, if there are 100 seats available, out of these, 15 will be for management quota and the remaining 85 will be for the minority students.

However, in the case of professional programmes, the reservation policy will be the same, but the admissions will be on the basis of merit.

Sunil Mantri, Secretary of the Minority Colleges Association said that with the new directive colleges do not have to reserve seats for the backward students. Junior colleges are already following this process. Till last year, 50% of the quota seats were divided between backward and open category students.
