After the results mess, the performance of the University of Mumbai in QS Asia University Rankings 2018 is a big blow to the authorities. The varsity slipped 36 places in the rankings compared to the previous year and stood at 181st position. In the rankings that were released last year, the varsity secured 145th rank. The performance of varsity in this area clearly indicates the quality of research work being undertaken.
The performance of Mumbai University in domestic and international rankings is not satisfactory. An official associated with varsity pointed that he was not surprised by the performance of varsity in QS Asia University Rankings 2018. The poor score in citations per paper indicates that MU’s papers are not being read, he expressed.
Teachers of the varsity have a different opinion in this regard. One of them pointed that lack of appropriate facilities on the campus and vacant teaching positions are the major reasons for the slide in the varsity’s performance. On the other hand, the varsity is yet to adopt a digital accounting method to regulate delay in issuing No Objection Certificates (NOC) for research. The varsity is hardly promoting or encouraging research activities on the campus, he opined.
A section of teachers was of the opinion that lack of resources is a major reason that is obstructing the varsity to show better performance in the rankings. The performance of MU in rankings is not very satisfactory.
