Professor Nageshwar Rao has been appointed as the new Vice Chancellor of Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU). Before being appointed as the Vice Chancellor of IGNOU he was the Vice Chancellor of Uttarakhand Open University (UOU).
Prof Rao said that him being appointed as the VC of IGNOU is a homecoming for him as he was earlier appointed as acting VC and Pro-VC in the same university. He further expressed his views on open education and said that it is a great opportunity for students in a country like India which is very diverse and encompasses many cultures in it. He also said that his main focus would be to improve the quality of distance education and to integrate technology with education support service.
He has held many key positions in the past as well. He was the VC of Kumanyu University Nainital from November 2016 to April 2017. He was also the VC of Uttar Pradesh Rajarshi Tandon Open University from August 2008 to August 2011. Apart from this, he has also held positions of a Professor and Acting Director of Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Business Management at Vikram University (Ujjain).
Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) was established in the year 1985 and offers many diploma, certificate, degree and certificate programmes. The university has more than 800 faculty members and 570 academic staff. Apart from this IGNOU also has 29 overseas partner institutions.
