Five New Medical Colleges to Come Up in Jammu and Kashmir, Centre Releases Rs. 260 crore

The centre has sanctioned Rs.260 crore for the establishment of five new medical colleges in Jammu and Kashmir. The new medical colleges will be established at Rajouri, Doda, Kathua, Baramulla and Anantnag district of the state.

Five New Medical Colleges to Come Up in Jammu and Kashmir, Centre Releases Rs. 260 crore

The Centre has approved Rs. 260 crore to the Jammu and Kashmir Health and Medical Education department for the establishment of five new medical colleges. The new medical colleges will come in different districts of the state. Atal Dullo, Principal Secretary, Health and Medical Education Jammu and Kashmir informed that the collective release of central share for these medical colleges at Rajouri, Doda, Kathua, Baramulla and Anantnag has reached to over Rs. 765 crore.

He further informed that Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has approved five new medical colleges in the J&K State and the cost for each medical college will be over Rs. 189 crore. Out of this amount, Rs. 139 crore will be for civil works and the remaining Rs. 50 crore will be utilised for machinery and equipment. The construction of five new medical colleges has already commenced.

The Jammu and Kashmir Health and Medical Education department have already initiated many steps to complete the infrastructure at the earliest. The department is also providing equipment and resource so that the work gets complete as soon as possible. All the resources by the department have been provided as per the guidelines of Medical Council of India. The department plans to start the batch of MBBS admissions next year.

The new medical colleges will provide medical aspirants with an opportunity to pursue their dreams, Over 500 MBBS students would be added annually to the overall capacity of the course in the state.
