NEET to be Postponed due to Cyclone Fani

Cyclone Fani hit the coastal Odisha and West Bengal on 3rd May, and property damage has been reported in high numbers, especially from Puri, Golpalpur, Bhadrak, Cuttack, and Bhubaneswar. The National Student Council of India or NSUI has requested the National Testing Agency or NTA to postpone the examination days of the National Entrance cum Eligibility Test or NEET 2019 as the students from the affected region may face problems to reach the examination centres. NEET has now been postponed and the new dates will be declared soon.

The NSUI President Ahraz Mulla had requested it in a letter written to the President of India and the Ministry of Human Resource Development. He requested that to ensure the students of Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, and Odisha do not face any problem attempting the examination in the current year.

The letter sent to the ministry and the president sheds light on the fact that the NEET examination is very crucial and students prepare for years to crack it. It also said that as the Cyclone Fani has reached the eastern coast of India and made havoc. Students from that region are now deprived of Electricity, Communication and basic amenities.

The letter further said that students have prepared for more than 2 years to crack the examination. Keeping in mind that NEET is an All-India examination, it will be not right to conduct the examination in the previously fixed dates.

The NEET 2019 date was fixed on 5th May 2019 by NTA or National Testing Agency, New Delhi. The Cyclone Fani which hit near the Puri Coast on Friday caused havoc and damages which cost millions. There were massive evacuation programmes that the state government of Odisha conducted and 8 deaths have also been reported from the states.
