Number of Ph.D Scholars Increase by 20 Percent: IIT Kharagpur
A total number of 298 research scholars were awarded Ph.D. degrees on the occasion of 62nd Convocation of IIT Kharagpur. The convocation was held on 30th and 31-July-2016. Apart from the Ph.D. degrees, 28 students were awarded MS Research Degrees. The officials of the institute said that the number of students received Ph.D. degrees this year increased to 20 percent. The institute has been focusing on research oriented activities for the past few years.
The officials also mentioned that the intake of research scholars have been increased. A total number of 2,550 scholars have been doing research under various doctoral programmes. The percentage has been increased from 15 to 20 percent.
The institute has been ranked among the top 3 institutes in the DST rankings. The research outcomes of the institute are outstanding. The faculty members of IIT Kharagpur have been termed as the top researchers in various fields. The institute also received ‘National Intellectual Property Award’ under ‘Top Academic Institute for Patents 2016’.

The university also launched joint Ph.D. programmes in collaboration with Curtin and Melbourne Universities. The institute also awarded seven distinguished alumni on the occasion of 62nd Convocation. The awards have been given for their exceptional professional achievements.
