The students of IIT Kharagpur have designed a Formula 1 Racing Car to compete in an international competition which is going to take place in Russia. The name of the competition is Formula Student Russia 2016. The competition is going to take place in the month of September. Around 30 teams around the world will participate in this competition. The car has been designed by Under Graduate students. The car has been named as K-3.
Students explained that the new car K-3 is the fourth car which is the lightest car among all the four. The weight of the car is 220 kgs. The car gives a mileage of 15 km/liter compared to K-2 which gave only 2 km/litre. The students are supported by the Department of Mechanical Engineering of the institute which is always involved in manufacturing various Formula Style Cars. So far, the students of the department have participated in four competitions. Carbon fiber body panels were used in the manufacturing process to restrict the weight of the car to 220 kgs.
The students will display the car in Formula Student Russia 2016 which is scheduled to take place from September 8 to 11-September-2016. The judgment will be based on how fast the car can run and will be given by the members of the jury.
