Managing Director of Mahindra and Mahindra Private Limited, Mr. Pawan Goenka will hold the position as Chairman of Indian Institute of Technology, Madras for three more years. The term of the Chairman has been extended until June 2020. President of India, Pranab Mukherjee has approved the term of Mr. Pawan Goenka as Chairman of IIT-Madras on March 14, 2017.
Mr. Pawan Goenka has been nominated consecutively for the second term. Initially, he was appointed as the Chairman of IIT-Madras on June 9, 2014. Mr. Goenka will be completing his tenure on June 9, 2017, i.e., three years. However, President of India has extended the term for three more years.

Recently, Indian Institute of Technology, Madras has come up with innovate museum through which students will be introduced to a different world. Through this museum, students will get an opportunity to make an aircraft engine, conduct a virtual aircraft launch and break a chemical compound on the experimental basis. The museum will be set up at Periyar Science and Technology Centre. The establishment of the new museum will be completed in June 2017.
The museum will enable students to keep up-to-date with the latest technology besides public programmes, experimental projects and hosting interactive exhibitions.

Recently, Indian Institute of Technology, Madras has also taken up a noble project of educating underprivileged children. The institute has taken this initiative under TRP or Teaching Reading Project. Through this initiative, IIT Madras will educate the children of five corporation schools in Chennai. Around 200 children will be benefitted through this initiative.
