PhD Scholars of IIT Indore Protest Against Fee Hike
PhD scholars of IIT (Indian Institute of Technology) Indore have been protesting against the fee hike for the last 10 days. The fee is hiked by 130 percent i.e. from Rs. 8,350 to Rs. 19,900 and the scholars said that they won’t pay the increased amount because they joined the institution much before the execution of this rule. Yesterday i.e. 21st July’ 16 scholars protested in front of the director’s office.
The protest is taking place with the aim to pressurise the management into rolling back the decision of fee hike.
Students are also complaining that the management and faculty harass them mentally. The management has still not said anything even though more than 150 students were sitting in front of the director’s office the whole day boycotting laboratory work and classes.
The student gymkhana has requested the scholars to stop protesting as the hike is not final and the final decision will only be made when the director comes back from the foreign trip.
But the scholars refused to stop the protest because they want the management to say this to them, a legal body.
In response to all this protest the management only said that this hike is justified because the scholarship fund is also increased simultaneously. They are also giving the scholars a chance to pay the fees in instalments.
Students are also protesting against the not so appropriate condition of the buildings. “Many accidents have occurred in the buildings. Once, a rod fell next to a student. Had it fallen on him, it would have been a tragedy,” said a student.
