PTA to be Mandatory in Arts and Sciences Colleges across Kerala

Kerala Higher Education Department has instructed all the private and government colleges to form the Parents Teachers Association (PTA). An official notification has been forwarded to all the colleges by the department.

PTA in Kerala Colleges

The Higher Education Department of Kerala has issued an official order stating that the Parent-Teacher Association should be mandatory in all aided and Private Arts and Science colleges across the state. The department has also listed out the detailed guidelines for constituting PTA in colleges. According to the Higher Education Department of Kerala, PTA plays a vital role in the betterment of basic amenities at the college, discipline, academic and administrative aspects.

As per the official notification issued by Kerala Department of Higher Education, the PTA is a formal organization that comprises of teachers and parents who are intended to enable/ ensure parental participation in higher learning institutes. The main responsibility of the PTA is to work for the welfare of students, supporting the quality enhancement of the teaching & learning process and improvement of infrastructural facilities in the college.

Aims and Objectives of PTA

The aims and objectives of constituting PTA in colleges are as follows -

  • Promoting good/ positive relationships between teachers, students, staff, parents/ guardians.
  • The idea is to ensure high academic standards and enables the smooth working of the college.
  • PTA also helps the colleges to institute several scholarship schemes, medals, prizes etc for the benefit of students.
  • To ensure good infrastructural facilities in higher learning institutes.

The PTA of respective college is also responsible for holding meetings to have an awareness of the overall performance of students, the status of developmental activities of college etc. Also, the PTA is responsible for mooting out its valuable inputs that play a vital role in the enrichment of students’ academics and college.
