CBSE – the conducting body of the exam – has announced that JEE Mains 2017 registration date have been extended to January 16, 2017. Candidates now have an additional 14 days to register for the exam. The board said that the schedule has been extended keeping in mind the request made by students, parents and schools as well.

The last date for application payment has also been shifted forward to January 17, 2017. Initially, the registration deadline was January 2, 2017.

The JEE Main exam is crucial for admission to various engineering colleges in the country. Admission to prestigious colleges such as the IITs, NIT, IIITs and other colleges funded by the central government is done on the basis of JEE Mains exam. However, JEE Mains is not the only criteria for admission to IITs and final admissions are done on the basis of JEE Advance.

Various states, including Gujarat, Haryana, Odisha, Madhya Pradesh, Uttarakhand as well as Nagaland will conduct admissions to their respective colleges on the basis of JEE Mains exam. Separate state level exams will not be conducted by these state for admission to undergraduate engineering programmes.
