School Holiday News Delhi Pollution

Delhi pollution levels have slipped to ‘Severe’ once again after slight improvement yesterday, November 02, 2022. The current pollution levels in the national capital stand at an Air Quality Index (AQI) value of 426, the worst record since December 26, 2021 when it was at an AQI of 459. A layer of smog has settled on Delhi due to the stubble burning in Punjab and vehicular emissions.

AQI index above 400 indicates that the air can affect even healthy people and severely affects the diseased, old, and children alike. Medical experts confirm that prolonged exposure to high AQI levels, especially in the mornings, can lead to serious health problems. Given these conditions, many people are asking the schools to be conducted online so that their children will not have to step out of the house. In such conditions, the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) has also urged the Government of Delhi to close schools in the interest of children. NCPCR is expected to issue a notice regarding it soon. Adesh Gupta, Delhi BJP Chief, has also written to the Delhi government to pay notice to this issue.

Private schools like the Shri Ram School, Delhi, have shut down their physical classes and have shifted them online until Monday. Even then, N95 masks will be compulsory. Until November 5, NCPCR has asked for a detailed report from the government. However, no decision has yet been given by the Delhi government. As of now, a holiday has not been confirmed for November 04 in Delhi.
