Somaiya Vidyavihar is all set to become a deemed or self-financed university which is likely to come into force during the upcoming 2019-20 academic year. Maharashtra State Cabinet on Wednesday, 20th February 2019 finally gave a thumbs up to the University’s request for the stature of a self-financed university.
The institute has received consent for the expansion of new programmes to improve higher education quality. Different faculties for research, skill development, and interdisciplinary teaching will be set up to facilitate the same.
Dr. Shubha Pandit, Principal of Somaiya Vidyavihar college feels that the efforts of the Institute have finally been recognised and it will help them include those programs which are not available in other Universities in the state of Maharashtra. Meanwhile, she chooses to keep her fingers crossed unless everything goes according to plan.
The University will remain under the joint supervision of two sponsors in Somaiya Trust and K.J Somaiya Trust. It will aim at fostering entrepreneurship, innovative enterprise, and creativity under the new academic programme development.
