23-year-old Vidit Garg was shocked when he found out that he has secured a seat in the prestigious IIM Ahmedabad. Vidit had secured a percentile of 89.67 in CAT 2016 and was half expecting that he will get a seat in India’s top b-school.
This was Vidit’s third CAT attempt and he prepared for the exam without any assistance from the coaching centres. However, he took guidance from different sources to prepare for interview rounds at top b-schools in India.
Vidit gives the credit for his performance to his parents’ support. It would have been difficult to make it through without their encouragement and support, said Vidit.
Talking about his preparation and education plans, Vidit said that he had joined the family business after his graduation as a back plan. He also added that Indian b-schools were not his only option. Vidit had also applied for various business schools overseas to secure other opportunities.
He planned for his CAT 2016 exam carefully and formulated an effective study plan to crack the entrance test. Vidit believes that coaching is not necessary to score well in CAT. He further added that coaching can only be a boosting element if one has a good study plan and complements it with what is being taught in coaching classes.
Vidit is now planning to prepare himself for the first session at IIM Ahmedabad. He added that he wants to be ready for the first term and perform well since most students find it difficult.
