The Supreme Court rejected a plea on Justice Lodha Panel headed by former Chief Justice of India, Mr. Lodha. Earlier, a constitutional bench had invoked extraordinary powers under Article 142 of the Constitution to set up a three-member oversight committee to monitor the work of Medical Council of India. It has been alleged that the panel gave permission to most of the medical colleges to admit students. The panel neither conducted any inspection nor took advice from MCI and Health Ministry. The colleges were given permissions to increase the intake of the students. The Lodha panel even extended the scheduled date to remove the deficiencies in the colleges.
