
CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu Education Minister Anbil Mahesh organised a press conference on October 22 at around 2 PM. Through this press conference, the Minister has officially issued SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures) for schools amid heavy rains. The Minister indicated that the schools must follow these SOPs to ensure the safety of students. Heavy rains have been lashing Tamil Nadu since October 21. The Minister has officially confirmed that the District Collectors are empowered to take a decision on school holidays in their respective districts after assessing the rain conditions.
TN Govt SOPs for Schools amid Heavy Rains: Detailed instructions
Here are the SOPs issued by the TN Government to ensure the safety of students in schools amid heavy rains -- The school management must contact the PWD (Public Works Department) in their locality in case there is waterlogging on the premises of schools. The water needs to be drained by using a motor
- If there are borewells on the premises of any schools, it is the responsibility of the management to close them fully
- The schools must ensure that there are no electrical leaks from switchboards or wires. The schools must identify the issues and get them repaired as early as possible
- The Education Minister further emphasised additional measures to make sure no untoward incident at schools
On October 22, the school holiday was announced in various districts due to heavy rains, and there is a higher chance on October 23 as well.
