Team from IIT Kharagpur to Visit Massachusetts Institute of Technology

In an attempt to promote diversified learning and exposure, the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur will be sending a team to the prestigious Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) for a joint workshop.

A team of students and teachers of the Architecture and Regional Planning Department, IIT Kharagpur, will be attending the joint practicum this summer.

Professor Haimanti Banerji of the Department of Architecture shed light on the purpose of the visit said that IIT KGP’s team and MIT had collaboratively worked on a test field. The aim of this project was to spread awareness among students regarding recent issues in urban and regional planning.

The team from IIT Kharagpur will comprise 12 undergraduate and postgraduate students of the institute as well as two faculty members. This team will visit MIT to participate in the workshop that will be focused on putting the theory of the programme into practice.

Head of the Department of Architecture and Regional Planning, Subrata Chattopadhyay, talked about the project and said that the practicum is a unique platform to combine the technical and creative strength of IIT Kharagpur and MIT.

He further added that the workshop will provide the students with cross-cultural and cross-dimensional exposure. This will also offer a scenario for understanding the dynamics and challenges faced by the planners and developers in an urban environment, Chattopadhyay added. The aim of the workshop is to understand the planning issues from a regional perspective.
