Telangana Govt. Hikes Fees for Intermediate, UG and PG Courses

Telangana Govt. Hikes Fees for Intermediate, UG and PG Courses

The higher education in Telangana is expected to become expensive from the upcoming academic session, i.e., 2018-19. The state government has prepared a detailed plan to hike the course fee for Intermediate, UG and PG courses by 10%. Last week, a meeting took place between Education Minister of Telangana and Telangana Government Recognised Colleges JAC (Joint Action Committee). During the meeting, a decision to enhance the fee structure was taken, and the proposal was sent to Chief Minister of Telangana for the final approval.

President of Telangana Government Recognised Educational Institutes JAC, Mr. Ramana Reddy, revealed that they were demanding the state government to hike the fees for intermediate, UG and PG courses for the past five years. Finally, the Deputy Chief Minister and Education Minister of Telangana, Mr. Kadiyam Srihari agreed to hike the fees by 10%. The JAC urged the state government to pass the new fee structure by March 31, 2018.

During the meeting, other major issues were discussed such as fee reimbursement scheme and affiliation process. The members of JAC demanded the state government grant affiliation to intermediate colleges for a period of five years. At present, the Board of Intermediate (BIE) Telangana grants annual affiliation to colleges.

The state government agreed to grant affiliation to intermediate colleges for five years. The colleges that are functioning out of temporary buildings will be also considered for the affiliation this year. Mr. Kadiyam Srihari also assured that the state government would clear fee reimbursement dues up to 2017 by the end of this month.

If the state government approves the new fee structure, it will affect over 12 lakh students.
