The Government of Telangana is expected to hike fees for MBBS course in private colleges under management and NRI quotas by 5% this year. The state government has prepared a detailed proposal for the 5% fee hike in MBBS course and forwarded it to the Health Ministry for the final approval. However, the state government confirmed that MBBS seats under Category – A (Convenor or State Quota) would not have a hike.
Management quota seats in private medical colleges in Telangana are called as ‘Category – B’ seats. Last year, private medical colleges charged Rs. 11.53 per annum for Category – B seats. If the state government increases the fee by 5% for management quota MBBS seats, students need to pay at least Rs. 13 lakh to Rs. 14 lakh per annum.
Even though the state government was not in favour of increasing the fees for Category – B MBBS seats, 11 private medical colleges have demanded the government for the same. Therefore, the state government had no option except to consider the demands raised by private medical colleges to avoid last minute admission delays and hassles. However, the final decision is yet to be taken.
NRI quota seats in private medical colleges in Telangana are called as ‘Category – C’ seats. Last year, private medical colleges charged Rs. 23 lakh per annum for Category – C MBBS seats. If the state government hikes fee by 5% for NRI quota MBBS seats, students need to pay at least Rs. 25 lakh to Rs. 26 lakh per annum.
A total number of 11 private medical colleges in Telangana offer 534 ‘B’ Category MBBS seats and 234 ‘C’ Category MBBS seats.
