Udgosh-the annual sports festival of IIT Kanpur, is going to be commence from tomorrow October 1 and Sanath Jayasuriya, the former cricket player of Sri Lankan team is expected to grace the sports festival.

For the first time in Udgosh that an international player will give away the medals and prizes to the winners when Jayasuriya will be chief guest for the occasion on the closing ceremony on October 4.
During the event 600 medals and 400 trophies will be given away to the winners.

“The preparation for the 13th edition of Udgosh had almost completed. Sporting events like athletics, cricket, football, basketball, volleyball, tennis etc will be held during this sports fest where 1800 outstation candidates from 50 colleges including IITs, IIMs, Delhi and Mumbai universities and others will participate,” said a student from the organizing committee.

“On the opening night, band named 'the local train' will perform which is causing waves in the Indian rock fraternity. The director of the Institute will inaugurate the function,” said another coordinator of the festival.

There will bike stunts show by 'Ghost Riders'. This is for the first time that the bike stunt show will be held. On the third night, a concert of ace singer Nikhil D'Souza will be held. On the final day morning there will be a marathon supporting the cause of the fest 'AIDS awareness'.

The other sporting events are athletics, cricket, football, basketball, powerlifting, weightlifting, taekwondo, tennis, squash, table tennis, carrom, chess, hockey, the major attractions would be burma-bridge, zip-line, zorbing, counter-strike, rappling, shooting, archery, crossbow, cross-pistol and wall-climbing. For the first time the 'Kho-Kho' event will be held for both the boys and girls this year. Last year Kho-Kho was held for boys only.

The festival committee informs that the festival budget is of Rs 60 lakhs and event has been raised with the help of 50 sponsors.
