The Modern College of Arts, Science & Commerce, Pune has been granted autonomous status by the University Grants Commission (UGC) on 7th May 2019. The autonomy status to the Pune Modern College has been granted for a period of 10 years and the same is effective from 2019-20 academic year. The notification regarding the autonomy status was sent to SPPU by UGC officials.
The certificate for all the UG and PG course from now will have the stamps of both SPPU and Modern College. Gajanan Ekbote, Chairman of Progressive Education Society informed that they will pay attention to the fee hike and it will be between 5 per cent to 10 per cent. This is because their students come from different backgrounds and a sudden fee hike will not be taken positively.
Apart from that, the syllabus for both undergraduate and part 1 of postgraduate courses will be changed from the upcoming session. As of now, there will be partial changes in the syllabus, however, in the next couple of years, new UG and PG courses will be introduced.
The college administration further revealed that they were working very hard to get the autonomous status from the past six months. This is because the autonomous status helps them introduce a new course, make changes in the curriculum among others.
To gain the autonomy status from UGC, Modern College Pune started the construction of the 11-storied building on the campus. The whole construction was completed in three phases. It was also revealed that the online examination centre is coming up which will have 100 computers. Apart from that many examination reforms will be introduced under the continuous evaluation system.
