University of Houston Names Building after Indian Couple

Dr Durga and Sushila Agrawal have been given the honour of having one of the buildings at the University of Houston be named after them. Dr Agrawal has been an alum at the varsity and is currently a member at the university.

University of Houston Names Building after Indian Couple

The University of Houston has announced that they have named one of their building after Dr Durga and Sushila Agrawal, an Indo-American couple. The decision was made so as to commemorate the endless contribution and aid, they have provided for students, faculty as well as research projects at the University of Houston. Officials from the University of Houston, which is a public research college that was formed in the year 1927, had taken the decision on the 26th of April this year.

Prior to having the entire building being renamed to the Indian-American couple, the University of Houston had named one of the floors of the building to the couple. The building was created two years ago, in 2017, and cost the University a whopping 51 Million US dollars.

Dr Agrawal had migrated to the US in 1968 after completing a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Delhi College of Engineering. After migrating to the US, he had acquired two advanced degrees from Cullen College of Engineering at the University of Houston in the course of Industrial Engineering. He is currently a representative of University of Houston’s System Board of Regents as well as the chair to the endowment management committee of the Varsity. Dr Agrawal has also worked as part of the Texas Higher Education Board for Four years.

In the year 1975, Dr Agrawal had launched a company for piping technology and products. The company has over 1,000 people working as employees. He commented stating that his life’s mantra is being optimistic at all costs. He further added that people can accomplish his/her goal in life with the help of hard work, determination and perseverance.

A dedication ceremony had been held for the naming of the University building, during which the president of the University of Houston, Dr Renu Khator stated that the naming of the building had been done to honour the contributions and gifts that had been offered by the Agrawals which has encouraged the students of the University of Houston.

The Cullen College of Engineering at the University of Houston hs more than 4,200 students in total, which also includes students who are pursuing their undergraduate courses in the 10 engineering fields that are taught at the varsity, along with many other inter-disciplinary courses as well.
