Post-Brexit Immigration Policies to Benefit Indian Students

Dominic Asquith, the British High Commissioner to India has claimed that the new immigration polity that is being introduced in the UK will benefit Indian students, professionals and as well as low skill workers to migrate to Britain. He said the newly implemented policy will help the students to find a job in the UK with a sufficient amount of time in hand after they complete their graduation. The people who are identified as low-skilled workers will also benefit from the simpler immigration policy. Asquith said that it will end the bureaucracy of UK employers who employ low-skilled workers as most of the workers will be based out of the UK.

After the country's exit from the European Union (EU) this year, the white paper for immigration that is underway will be finalised by the country. The High Commissioner informed that the previous year, over 19,500 Indian students got UK study visas which is a remarkable increase by almost 70% from the previous year’s numbers. The new migration policy is also putting importance on that sector. In 2018, even the skilled workers who migrated for work purposes in the UK touched the highest number. 55,000 UK work visas were issued to Indian nationals which are higher than all the combined visa issues to other countries’ nationals on the previous year.

The high commissioner Dominic Asquith encouraged the Indian cricket fans to apply for visas fast as the 2019 cricket world cup is being held in the country from May to July. He expressed that he wants the Indian nationals to know that it only takes 15 days to process visas for the UK. The High Commissioner is expecting 75,000 Indian visitors to the UK in the World-Cup season. He backed his claim by pointing out that in 2018, 97% of the visa applications were processed in a span of 15 days. Even the tourist visa numbers in the UK by Indian Nationals went up by 10%. 2018 alone received 4,85,000 visitors to the UK from India.
