VTU Postpones Exam to Pay its Respect to Dr Girish Karnad

Visveswaraya Technological University has released a notification stating that the University Exams will be postponed in order to pay their respects to the reputed playwright to Dr Girish Karnad. Dr Karnad passed away at his residence in Bengaluru on June 10th 2019.

VTU Postpones Exam to Pay its Respect to Dr Girish Karnad

To honour the popular playwright Dr Girish Karnad, Visveswaraya Technological University has postponed its exam which was scheduled to be held on Monday, the 10th of June 2019. The university was set to begin its university exams from Monday, however, following the death of the reputed playwright, the University released a notification regarding postponing the exam. VTU is yet to announce the revised date sheet for its University exams.

Along with VTU, the Tamil Nadu Government has forwarded a notice asking all the schools, colleges and educational institutions to close up their institutions for the next three days, in respect of the late Dr Girish Karnad.

Veteran Actor Dr Girish Karnad, has contributed to the educational sector by becoming the first director of the Film and Television Institute of India who was not a Civil Servant. He had been elected as the director of FTII in 1974, after which he was elected to be the chairman in 1999. Dr Girish Karnad completed his schooling in Marathi. He had completed his graduation in BA Mathematics and Statistics, from Karnataka Arts College. He was also a postgraduate in MA Philosophy, Political Science and Economics in Oxford’s Magdalen as a Rhodes Scholar.

Girish Karnad will remain as a Legend in the field of both on-screen and theatre. He will be remembered for his contribution to the industry of literature and entertainment. With being a part of various plays as either author, actor, playwright or film director, Girish Karnad strengthened the foundation of the Indian Entertainment Industry in both film and theatre with productions such as Yayati and Tughlaq as well as Samskara, Vamsha Vriksha, and Hayavadana among many more films and plays. Karnad had received various achievements such as the Janpath Award. He was also awarded Padma Shri in the year 1974 and Padma Bhushan in 1992.
