Where DU Spurns Private Universities Earn
Thousands of students from across the country that have been flocking to Delhi University for its different undergraduates courses have to return back depressed or dejected as the cut-off mark is getting high and there is no use of studying subject which is not their choice.
This year DU received 3, 20,799 applications for its 54,000 seats. “Over the years there are no increase of the seats in any of the DU colleges and the colleges are functioning on same old infrastructure whereas the private universities are coming up with new infrastructures, cent percent placement record, hi-tech classroom and, of course, easy selection criteria etc. Because of these factors they are alluring more students. The students also love to choose these private universities instead of DU,” said Dr Gita Baurah, parents of DU admission aspiring student.
What are the reasons that Private Universities are getting edge over DU Savita Mehta, Vice President-Communications, Amity Group Amity University says, “Over the last five years, the number of applicants has doubled in Amity University and every year, there has been a 10-15% increase in the number of programmes being offered by the University. Amity University offers 140 industry aligned programmes in areas such as Management, Law, Communication, Solar and Alternate Energy, Nanotechnology, Nuclear Science, Aerospace Engineering, Robotics and many more. The innovative programmes at University are meticulously delivered through modern pedagogy and teaching aids, state of the art facilities in terms of on Campus hostel facility for 5,000 + students, well stocked Libraries, Laboratories equipped with latest equipments, Wi-Fi facility across the Campus, E-learning studios and Syndicate Classrooms. Value added programmes such as Foreign Language, Business Communication and other soft skills are the intrinsic part of each and every programme offered here.
Several students agree to the fact that the private universities are introducing new subjects that are mostly job oriented and these universities have better tie up with the foreign universities for the higher education and the different multinational companies for placement. These private universities also have the provision of hiring visiting faculties from abroad and offering lots of scholarships.
“The only profit while studying at DU is the glam factor and lesser admission fees. For admission into an undergraduate course, the fees in a reputed private university starts from Rs 3 lakhs per annum whereas, it is less than 50 thousand per annum in DU", said Ruchi Bhalla, a DU aspirant of this year.
Every year these private universities are expanding and adding more seats to their courses and they are quite disciplined in their admission procedure," says Sabitur Sharma, a passed out from a private university in Gurgaon.
