Women Safety App Developed at Bharati Vidyapeeth College of Engineering Hackathon

  • Bharati Vidyapeeth College of Engineering organised a Hackathon that witnessed participation of 25 teams from engineering colleges in Delhi-NCR region.

Women Safety App Developed at Bharati Vidyapeeth College of Engineering Hackathon

A team of students from Jaypee Institute of Information Technology has developed a mobile app that ensures the safety of women. The app enables women to send a distress call just by dropping or shaking the device. The useful app, which the team has named as 'Panchhi' will be helpful for women during an emergency situation when their safety is at stake.

The students bagged an opportunity to work on the project during a two-day hackathon organised by Bharati Vidyapeeth College of Engineering on 10th and 11th October 2017. The event witnessed participation of 25 teams from not only Delhi but also the national-capital-regions. This year's hackathon was themed around ‘Smart Habitat’ and closely associated with the government’s initiative of developing smart villages and smart cities. Over 200 teams registered for the hackathon event out of which only 25 teams were shortlisted. The selected groups actively participated in all the activities which were scheduled for the event.

Another team from Indira Gandhi Delhi Technological University developed an app that notifies the user of food going stale. The team’s intention was to develop a solution to prevent food wastage since it is a menace in the country.

The event ignited the innovative minds and enabled participants to come up with solutions for the different challenges and problems faced by the society. Women safety is a key issue in the society that needs to be addressed significantly in order to bring about change in the trends and figures which show the plight of the country in this regard. The apps developed by different teams are indeed useful in the society.
