Following the failure of the University of Delhi in appointing governing bodies to 28 DU colleges, the state government of Delhi issued the order to freeze the funds of 28 DU colleges. DUTA- Delhi University Teachers' Association wrote to CM Arvind Kejriwal regarding the issue of employees of 28 colleges partially or fully funded by the city government are not receiving salaries on time due to stoppage of grants government.

However, Deputy Chief Minister and Education Minister Manish Sisodia had directed the education secretary in June to ensure that funds for three months were released to the 28 colleges. The employees of these colleges have been constantly subjected to delayed salaries and reimbursements due to the stoppage of funds by the government.

DUTA said that the stoppage of grants is also affecting the students enrolled in these colleges. According to the DUTA the government should do something about the release of funds for the additional posts. Also, the new courses that were introduced after necessary approvals are being starved of funds. The government needs to release the fund immediately to appoint new teachers for these courses and clear backlog funds.

Out of the 28 colleges affiliated to the University of Delhi, 12 colleges get 100% funding from the state government. They will now have to face hardship as it will become difficult for them to function without adequate funding. On the other hand, 16 colleges get 5% funding from the state government. Authorities of Delhi University shall soon take a call on the issue and appoint governing bodies to these 28 colleges if they wish to function smoothly.

The Executive Council of the varsity had approved the list of nominees now making it the responsibility of college principals to take steps for constituting the governing body. The letter also directed the colleges to upload the appointment details on the official websites of respective colleges.
