DU Vice-Chancellor Seeks Help of UP, Haryana Govt. for Construction of Hostels
As of now, the Delhi University (DU) has 3 hostels in South Campus and 15 in North Campus.
Vice-Chancellor of University of Delhi, Mr. Yogesh Tyagi is seeking help from the Haryana and Uttar Pradesh (UP) governments for the construction of hostels for the students belonging to these states.
The proposed idea is to construct hostel facilities in areas of the NCR region like Noida, Gurgaon, Faridabad - and preferably close to a metro station so that the students do not face problems in commuting to and from the university campus.
As per reports, the Haryana government is ready to help and has responded positively to the idea.

Every year, a large number of students come to Delhi University from neighbouring states as well as from all regions of the country. Out of these, the second and third highest number of students belong to UP and Haryana respectively.
For example, the ministry of development of the Northeast region provides financial aid for constructing hostels in the city specifically for the NE students.
Finding accommodation - PG or rented apartments/floors in Delhi is a costly affair. Tyagi is of the view that just like the NE government, Haryana and UP government can offer help in creating residential facilities for its students.

As of now, the Delhi University (DU) has 3 hostels in South Campus and 15 in North Campus. Additional hostel facilities are offered by colleges such as Lady Shri Ram, Indraprastha College for Women, Miranda House, Ramjas, SRCC, Hindu and Kirori Mal, among others. However, the demand outnumbers the supply as 10-12% of students stay in the university and college hostels.
