Miranda House College is situated in the North Campus of the University of Delhi. Founded by the University Vice-chancellor Sir Maurice Gwyer, the college’s foundation stone was laid by Lady Edwina Mountbatten on 7th March 1948. Miranda House College initially started with 33 students in 1948 and now it can accommodate more than 4000 students. Before becoming a fully fledged college it was a Residence, hence the name Miranda House. The motto of the college is an integral part of its emblem that translates in English as “Learning through self-education”.
Miranda House College has been ranked as the top college of the country. The National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) awarded All India no. 1 Rank to the college. The National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) has awarded the college A+ Grade with 3.61 CGPA.
Designed by the architect Walter Sykes George, the architectural style of MHC, New Delhi is one of a kind. Because of its beauty, the campus is declared as a ‘Heritage Building’. The hostel of the college is one of the most beautiful hostels of DU Colleges. It is laid out in an aesthetically designed quadrangle incastellating beautiful gardens enclosed by bottled palm trees forming a pathway.
Miranda House College continuously works on empowering women and for that, it has a Women’s Development Cell. The cell organizes a three-day certificate course on “Women and Law” and lectures, workshops, documentary, and discussions on pertinent issues.
Miranda House College offers 37 courses including certificate courses under five degrees namely B.A., M.A., M.Sc., B.Sc., and B.El.Ed. Unlike many other DU Colleges, it provides Bachelor in Elementary Education. It also offers Certificate Courses in five languages namely French, German, Chinese, Japanese and Spanish. What’s remarkable is that it provides a Short Duration Certificate Course on Computer Applications for Visually Challenged Students.
The college caters to world-class facilities for their students. Be it hostel mess or library, be it sports ground or computer lab, ‘well-equipped’ is the first adjective that comes in mind while talking about all of this.
Over the last seven decades of its existence MHC, DU has maintained its rich legacy by providing high academic excellence and rich cultural activities to its students. Miranda House University College for Women Placement
Miranda house also has a separate placement cell for students. Many of the graduates, are working in different-different areas. The placement cell of the college has faculty members and student volunteers. The placement cell organizes the activities of campus recruitment and career counseling.

Miranda House is the best thing that could have happened to me. Besides academics, MH taught me to be a woman of the world, instilling the right set of ethics and ownership to be a good leader, manager and a responsible citizen. The college encouraged me to come out of my shell and face the challenges head-on.
