FTII to Introduce 11 Short-Term Courses Soon

Film and Television Institute of India or FTII will soon launch 11 short-term courses. These courses will lay more emphasis on skill development to create a specialised workforce for cinema and television industry. NSDC or National Skill Development Council has given approval to FTII for launching 11 skill based short-term courses. All these courses will be offered under PMKVY or Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana.

An official revealed that the approval from NSDC empowered FTII with a status of ‘training provider in the entertainment and media sector’. FTII will provide training in different fields such as unit production management, script writing, assistant cameraman, sound assistant, camera operation, painting, set carpentry, storyboarding, character design, make-up and editing.

FTII will offer these courses in the following cities initially: -

• Visakhapatnam
• Jaipur
• Guwahati
• Pune

It will launch three courses out of eleven including character design, makeup, editing.

In November 2016, the Governing Council of FTII approved Skill India in Film and Television initiative. Later, it forwarded the proposal to NSDC and sought funding for the courses with an objective to make them affordable. FTII also made presentations on the same in Pune and Delhi. Finally, NSDC approved the proposal on July 21, 2017.

FTII’s plan to launch short-term courses will be an advantage for the aspirants in smaller cities and towns. Since these courses are offered under PMKVY, they will be available at an affordable cost. FTII has already been running a few short courses in screenplay writing, film appreciation, acting and digital cinematography.
