IIT-Indore Tells Students to Mobilise Funds

As newly established Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Indore allegedly ran out of funds from the government, the management has asked the students and their families to generate funds so that the remaining construction work at its campus can be completed.

IIT -Indore that established in 2009, started functioning from a makeshift building and later shifted to a new building from 2012 even though the construction work remained incomplete.

Under the leaky roof, the classes are held in the under- construction building with the apprehension of students' safety and security. Several important scientific instruments like radio telescope, super computers etc have to be packed and locked in a safe room for fear of being damaged.

To speed up the construction work, the deputy registrar of the Institute has written a mail to students, parents and families members to contribute for the construction of the remaining works.

The registrar also asked to mobilise the donation as to fasten the development of infrastructure. Donations made to IIT-Indore would be 100% exempted from the income tax.

The students also complained that they have been asked to act as a messenger and bring more donations. “The registrar said that all the funds have been exhausted and the construction work has yet to be finished," said a student on the condition of anonymity.

Due to fear of dust and leakage several states- of- the- art equipment have been packed and kept inside the room. Whereas these machines were supposed to be placed in air conditioning room, said another student.

Nobody from the institute could be contacted despite repeated attempts. It is to be noted that IIT Indore had banned all the social media on its campus due to protest of some Ph.D Scholars and institute’s server have been blocked for all social media platforms.
