IIT Madras and NTU Singapore to Offer Joint Ph.D. Course
IIT Madras and Nanyang Technological University (NTU) Singapore have collaborated to offer joint Ph.D. programmes as a part of which 5 students from IIT Madras will go to NTU for a 18-month period to pursue this course.
Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras and Nanyang Technological University (NTU) Singapore have come together to offer a new Joint Ph.D. course. As per the pact, Co-founder of Infosys, Kris Gopalakrishnan who is also a distinguished alumnus of IIT Madras will sponsor 5 students from the institute annually who will go to NTU Singapore for a period of 18 months and pursue this course. Further, the IIT Madras alumni community based in Singapore will provide all the necessary support to the institutes.
The Director of IIT Madras, Prof. Ramamurthi and President of NTU, Prof. Subra Suresh had signed the MoU for the Joint Ph.D. programme recently in the presence of PM Modi to promote a mutual and two-way relationship between the two institutes. It will help in the equal number of exchange of scholars between both the institutes.
Describing the importance of the programme, Infosys Co-founder said that such international collaborations in the field of research are extremely beneficial so that diverse perspectives are taken into account to solve global issues and challenges. Also, since both the institutes have common and complementary research agendas, the collaboration will help in introducing advanced research at both the institutes, he added.

IIT Madras' Alumni Community Chair Professor, Prof. Nagarajan also said that NTU will be sending a team of faculty members who will conduct a Research Collaboration Workshop at the institute this year and a similar workshop will also be conducted by IIT Madras faculty at NTU in 2019. He highlighted the fact that Dr. Subra Suresh's support has been instrumental in paving the way forward for this unique collaboration.

NTU has also set up an office named 'NTU India Connect' with a strong intent to develop mutual relations with Indian higher learning institutes.
