JEE Advanced: Students Who Missed 2020 Exam Can Appear in 2021

Joint Admission Board (JAB) has taken an important decision with regard to the JEE Advanced exam. Candidates who have registered for JEE Advanced 2020 and were unable to attend the exam can appear for the entrance exam in 2021. For these candidates, qualifying for JEE Main 2021 will not be mandatory. These candidates can directly appear for JEE Advanced 2021 through their 2020 registration. A separate admit card will be issued to these candidates. This is a good opportunity for students who are aspiring to get admission in IITsand were unable to appear for JEE Advanced 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

At present, only two attempts are allowed in the JEE Advanced examination. The decision on allowing JEE Advanced 2020 dropouts for 2021 is a one-time measure. This year, out of 2.5 lakh eligible candidates, only 1.5 lakh appeared for the exam. This clearly indicates that the difficult situations caused by the Covid-19 pandemic made many eligible students skip the premier exam.

Candidates aspiring for JEE Advanced 2021 must note that this one-time measure will not have an impact on the number of fresh candidates to be declared qualified for the 2021 exam.

This year, JEE Advanced cutoff for General (CRL) was 17.50% while the same for the EWS category was 15.75%. The results of JEE Advanced 2020 were announced on October 05, 2020, and the counseling process for the admission in IITs closes in the second week of November.
