Karnal Boy With Low JEE Rank Lands a Seat at IIT

After completion of all rounds of JoSAA counselling at the IITs, it was found out that some seats were still left vacant at top notch institutes like the Indian Institute of Technology & Indian School of Mines. Nayan Bansal, a student from Karnal had appeared for the JEE exams to get admission in one of the IITs but could not get admission due to his low rank.

Nayan had secured 13,060 rank in the examination and had failed to land within a seat at the institute. However, even after the completion of the six counselling rounds at IITs, it was found out that out of a total of 9,660 seats at IITs, 73 seats were still left vacant and 23 seats were left vacant at the ISMs. To this, Nayan had requested the authorities for a direct admission to any of these seats at the colleges.

His plea was left unheard by the institute but when he took the matter to the Punjab and Haryana High Court on July 28, 2016, it was agreed that Nayan should be awarded with a seat at any of the institutes since there were vacant seats still available.

Nayan will most probably be admitted at IIT Ropar, since there was a seat vacant at the institute.

While taking the decision, it was noted that the student was willing to take admission in the institutes as he had locked all the 233 choices in all 23 IITs/ISM in all disciplines/streams on July 29, 2016
