Lucknow University Struggles with Fake Marksheet Scam

The incident of issuing fake mark-sheet came out when some of the ex-students visited Lucknow University with their previously issued mark sheets which did not tally with the records in the university. The incident is now being handled by police and few arrests have been made. The major allegations are made about the university staff behind the generation of fake mark sheets. Police are now working on the charge sheet based on the allegations.

The first fake mark sheet was submitted in the college on Thursday by an ex-student who sought for migration certificate. The mishap was detected by the varsity officials when they noticed there is a significant mismatch in the mark-sheet from the data registered at varsity. S.K. Shukla, the registrar of Lucknow University has said that the student has been asked to be present in the office and clarify the mismatch herself. Till then, the mark sheet has been withheld by the University.

The registrar informed that the doubt was regarding the mark sheet of a woman who claimed to have passed B.Sc in 2004 from Lucknow University. The mark sheet shows that she completed her first year from CMS Degree college and the second and final year from IT College. The mark sheet statement is doubtful as ideally students are not shifted from one college to another when the course is midway.

The university officials have informed the police suspecting a bigger underground racket behind this. The terror of fake mark-sheets continued in LU with this incident as there were six arrests made by police on the alleged fake mark-sheet case in the last week. 2 LU officials were also arrested in this case by the police.

As per the police observations, the fake marksheet racket was managed from outside the university in which, some university officials were also involved. The power of the racket is so high that people were strategically put in these positions that required the issuance, verifications, and processing of mark sheets.

N.K. Pandey, the LU spokesperson has claimed that the mark sheets are made in two tabulations which are, blue and red which are kept in the locker of the examination official’s office. Though he claimed that no one but the superintendent could access these lockers but the observations found that the mark sheets were easily accessible by the clerks and peons posted at the examination office.

Learning a lesson from the scam that took place in the varsity, the University of Lucknow is now focusing to tighten the security by strict authorisation of people and installing CCTV cameras in the sensitive sections.
