Maharashtra to Provide Competitive Exam Training to Konkan, Vidarbha Candidates
Maharashtra Govt. is in the talks for imparting training to students from Konkan and Vidarbha to increase the representation of the youth from the region in state-government jobs. Proposals to establish IAS training centers as well as provide assistance to such institutes have also been made.
In a bid to raise the number of students who clear competitive exams from Konkan and Vidarbha, Minister Subhash Desai from Maharashtra announced that proposals of providing training to students for the same are underway.
The step had been taking to increase the number of applicants from the Vidarbha and Konkan in the state government jobs. MLC Khwaja Baid had raised the issue of lack of representation of youth from the Vidarbha district in government jobs.
During the discussion, Desai pointed out that the recruitment of applicants from Konkan and Vidarbha regions was witnessed to be low, where competitive exams were a part of the recruitment process. It was seen that candidates from the regions were unable to crack competitive exams such as UPSC and MPSC.
To solve the issue, a committee member suggested offering the students as enhanced training so that they are able to first crack and clear the exams, and take part in the recruitment exams. Desai had also informed the House on the implementation of a special programme by the State Higher and Technical Education Department, where Nagpur and Konkan students were trained for state-recruitment exams.

Another suggestion had been forwarded by Former Minister Ranjit Kamble, asking the state to establish an IAS Training Academy, in Amravati and Nagpur districts. He further asked the state government to offer assistance to institutes and academies that offer programmes and training for such competitive exams in the aforementioned districts, including Konkan

Minister Subhash Desai assured the former Minister that his suggestions on IAS training academy and the proposal to offer assistance to such institutes will be looked into as well.
