DTE Launches School Connect Programme

The Directorate of Technical Education (DTE) has launched a school connect programme with admissions in polytechnic colleges in the district going down. Under the programme, there will be sessions for counselling before the Class 10 board examinations.

After the Class 10 examinations, candidates can apply for different diploma programmes in polytechnic colleges in the different fields of engineering. Information will be shared with the students before the preliminary examinations that are to be held on January 15 under this programme.

The Pune DTE Joint Director Rajendra Gaikwad said that they have to ensure that 100 per cent admissions are done in each government college. Pune Zone has seven government colleges and they have organised a school connect programme in each district school.

Along with that, he added that they offer courses in minimal fees in these government colleges through which they are seeking more students to take admissions in these colleges.

Government Polytechnic College, Pune is one of the most popular colleges in the district where no seat was left vacant in the last few years. However, in 2019, it has seen a decline wherein 1-2 per cent of seats were lying vacant.

Rajendra Gaikwad further said that it is significant to reach every class 10 student and let them know the options available after passing the exam. They must know the conventional courses like engineering and medical which would enable students to get hands-on experience in the field.

Class 10 students get busy after the preliminary examination and hence all the counselling sessions are to be conducted before January 15 to let the students get enough time to know about the same, mentioned DR Nandanwar, Principal of Government Polytechnic College, Ansari, Pune.

The counselling sessions will be to educate students about how polytechnic colleges give hands-on experience to students along with internships. After completing a course like mechanical, telecommunication, civil engineering, computer engineering, etc. from polytechnic college, students can even begin working after their industrial training.

As there was a career fair last year, the DTE officials said that it had already got too late as candidates had already decided on their career options.

Are you feeling lost and unsure about what career path to take after completing 12th standard?
