NEET-UG 2018: Dress Code for Sikh Students Clarified by Delhi HC

On May 03, 2018, the High Court of Delhi has given clarity on the dress code for Sikh students, who will be appearing for NEET-UG 2018 exam on May 06. As per the decision of HC, Sikh students are allowed to wear ‘Kripan’ (dagger) and ‘Kara’ (iron bracelet) while appearing for the NEET entrance test. The court has given this relaxation to Sikh students on a condition that they should report at exam centre at least an hour before the commencement of exam for screening and security checks.
On behalf of Sikh students, SGPC (Shiromani Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee) wrote a letter to MHRD seeking its assurance to allow the baptised Sikh students to appear for the NEET-UG exam with Kripan and Kara.

SGPC Chief, Gobind Singh Longowal urged the HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar to issue instructions in this regard, as SGPC has been receiving numerous complaints from Sikh students that they might not be allowed into the exam hall with their ‘five articles of faith’. Since Kripan and Kara are the symbols of Sikhism, students must be given relaxation in this regard, he pleaded HRD Minister.

Since the government does not intend to hurt the religious sentiments of any community, an order has been issued by Delhi HC allowing Sikh students were Kripan and Kara while appearing for NEET.
Candidates appearing for NEET must have a clear idea of NEET guidelines/ rules & regulations. It is advisable for candidates to report to the exam centre at least an hour before to avoid last minute rush and complete security checks.
