NIT Warangal Creates Virtual Reality Software for Mining Industry
A virtual reality software has been developed and launched by NIT Warangal. This software is made to reduce the accidents occurring in the companies of the mining industry.
The National Institute of Technology (NIT) Warangal has developed a virtual reality software for helping in the reduction of untoward incidents happening in the mining industry. A startup called Cusmat Technologies Private Limited has emerged from the know-how that was gathered at NIT Warangal’s Centre for Innovation and Incubation and it is the body that has created the software. Anirban Chakraborty and Soumya Ranjan Harichandan are the former students whose minds are behind the startup.
MOIL India Limited of Nagpur, that is associated with the Ministry of Mines, has already started using the software. After the project has been worked upon, the Centre will sanction three more projects worth Rs. 1 crore for similar work.
The newly formed software is being used as a simulator for training operators to prevent accidents that occur during excavations, in lifts that are used in mines, on conveyor belts, during unloading and loading processes, and other such things.

The Head of the Centre for Innovation and Incubation at the National Institute of Technology Warangal, Professor L. Anjaneyulu, has been the chief investigator for this project. He spoke about the software and said that materials and men have to be transported by lifts at the mines. Accidents can occur in this process if the operator responsible for overseeing the lift movements is not well trained. This new software designed by experts permits the operator to be trained via simulation. The operators are given training about the use of winder which is responsible for moving the lift up and down.
Ranjan, who is the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the startup, said that the software was used in the previous year in Chennai. The company that utilised the services of the software reported that they witnessed a 40 per cent decline in the total number of accidents that occurred there. The demand for such software in the mining sector is huge.

This software by NIT Warangal is surely going to provide major help to the employees working in the mining sector. It is a great initiative to ensure the safety of the employees and looking after their security.
