PU Issues Guidelines for Online Teaching Due to COVID-19 Impact

Panjab University has now issued guidelines for online teaching to ensure that students don’t suffer due to COVID-19. The online classes will help compensate the academic loss as the classes had been suspended till March 31 at PU. PU’s Dean University of Instruction issued the guidelines to the faculty for conducting classes online.

The teachers have been advised to upload e-lectures (slides/presentations/texts) via Google Classroom and also clear the doubts and resolve students’ issues. Lectures will take place via email and students’ queries will be replied to through email, WhatsApp and Skype. The authorities have also asked the teachers to make use of YouTube for presentations and lectures. Students can reply through video conferencing. Interactive talks will also take place through skype or zoom.

Topics can be given to the students and they will have to prepare the topic and share it with fellow students and teacher through email. The National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning (NAPTEL) could also be used for engineering courses.

The Department of Chemistry at PU recently developed a lab-made hand sanitiser as per the WHO standards, and it can be used to protect against viral and bacterial strains. The sanitiser has a solution of isopropyl alcohol/ethanol with hydrogen peroxide, glycerol and deionised water as per WHO recommendations. Meanwhile, since the education system is getting impacted due to the coronavirus outbreak, the government is striving to provide content through various e-learning platforms, which can help students study various subjects.
