The first round of placements at IIT-B scheduled to begin from December 1, 2016, is expected to be headed by several financial services firm, Visa, IT giants.
The first round of placements at IIT-B scheduled to begin from today, December 1, 2016, is expected to be headed by several financial services firm and IT giants like Google and Microsoft.

All these companies are expected to conduct interviews and make offers on the first day of the placements. The list of most of the companies that are supposed to come for the first two days of the placements is similar to last year (2015). Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) will also make its presence on the first two days.
New companies that are expected to make their presence this year are-
- App-based aggregator Uber
- FMCG company Procter and Gamble
- Financial services firm Mastercard
Several public sector companies or PSUs are also expected to visit the campus for the first time. These include-
- Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL)
- BPCL and Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL)
- Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC)
Notably, online retail company Flipkart will remain absent on first two days from the list of companies scheduled for placements this year.
The companies that had made highest package offers in 2015 were -
- Visa
- Microsoft
- Oracle
Visa had offered the highest base salary of $115,000 whereas Microsoft, Google and Oracle offered around $100,000 to students selected for US profiles. An official of the placement cell of the institute said that few companies may offer for US profile this year, refusing to disclose names. It is the Japanese companies that offer the highest number of the foreign profiles generally.

But the placement season will see a lower participation from startups. This may be due to the last year's incidents of offers being revoked and altered multiple numbers of times and the placement office at IIT-B taking a tough stance. The other reason for poor turnout of startups may be due to lower funding in the startup ecosystem.
