Professor of IIM-Ahmedabad Likely to be Next Director of IIM-Bangalore

The position of Director at Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore has been vacant for the past nine months after the resignation of Sushil Vachani. Finally, Ministry of Human Resource and Development has finalised the name of Prof. G. Raghuram to replace him as Director. If everything goes as per plan, he would assume the charge of premier institute.

Prof. Raghuram has been working as a Professor at Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad for the past thirty years. Currently, he is rendering his services as the Chairperson of the Public Systems Group at IIM-A. He has extensive experience in logistics and supply chain management. He carried out research on shipping, aviation, railway, port and road sectors. He worked as Vice-Chancellor of Indian Maritime University from July 2012 to March 2013. He also co-authored six books.

He was a student of Indian Institute of Technology, Madras and IIM-Ahmedabad. Later, he pursued a doctorate in Northwestern University, United States (US).

Currently, Raghuram has been teaching at the Sauder School of Business, Vancouver and IIM-Ahmedabad. According to sources, Union Minister of Human Resouce and Development Prakash Javadekar has indicated his preference for Raghuram. The file has been dispatched to Appointments Committee of the Cabinet. The final approval of the committee is pending.

Sushil had resigned in the month of March, three months before his tenure expired. Currently, he is working as a Professor at Boston University School of Management.
