Registration to be Compulsory for Studying Abroad: Ministry of External Affairs

The Government of India has decided to implement a compulsory registration process for the candidates who intend to pursue higher studies from foreign colleges and universities. The provision will be mentioned in the Emigration Bill that will be drafted by the Ministry of External Affairs.

The Government of India has decided to soon introduce a common registration process for the students interested in pursuing higher education from foreign countries. The guidelines for the same has been projected in the Emigration Bill.

The proposal has been drafted by the Government of India’s Ministry of External Affairs. An Emigration Management Authority will also be framed in order to make sure the welfare, security and safety of the students who intend to migrate for higher studies to the foreign nations.

The registration process will also be made compulsory for the agencies involved in recruiting professionals and/or are responsible for taking students to foreign lands. There are a total of 18 foreign countries where this process is already active. The 18 foreign countries include UAE, Iraq, Afghanistan, Indonesia, Bahrain, Kuwait, Thailand, Qatar, Lebanon, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Libya, Sudan, Syria, South Sudan, Malaysia and Jordan.

According to the Ministry of External Affairs, the Bill that is about to be passed would cater the security needs of the students at times of emergency situations like that of Civil Wars or other security issues in the foreign countries. With the proper records and details of the students or the professionals working in the foreign countries, it is expected that it will become easy and quick for the Ministry of External Affairs to bring them back safely to their homeland at times of Civil Wars or any other emergency situation.
