Every year, close to 23 lakh students pass-out fromIndustrial Institutes of Technology (ITIs)in India. However, there is no proper mechanism to carry out assessment and certification process for students. States have the responsibility of conducting these processes for the ITIs located in the region. With a motive to liberalize states from the process of certification and assessment of ITI students, the government has come up with a plan to set up a separate board for ITIs on the lines ofCBSEandICSE.

Constituting a separate board will help the ITI graduates to take up regular courses in colleges. In other words, the certificates awarded by the board to ITI students will be equivalent to the ones given to CBSE and ICSE pass outs.
