UGC Approves 113 Higher Education Institutes for Distance and Open Learning
113 new Higher Education Institutes have been recognised for open and distance learning by the University Grants Commission. UGC has already acknowledged 82 Distance and Open Learning in May this year.
University Grants Commission (UGC) has approved 113 New Higher Education Institutes for Open and Distance Learning. Earlier this year, UGC has already acknowledged 82 distance and open learning universities. Looking at the increasing interest of the students in the Open and Distance Learning courses (ODL) and around 25 per cent students , UGC has been implementing strict quality regulations.
In December 2012, as per the directives of the MHRD, Department of Higher Education, all the regulatory functions of Distance Education courses were allocated to University Grants Commission. After UGC was allocated with the same, the Distance Education Council was dissolved. Before UGC, all the decisions regarding distance education were taken by DEC.
This year, UGC is taking many important steps like it has allowed SDM, Ujire to commence 3 brand new undergraduate professional courses. UGC also is providing SDM, Ujire with financial help for these courses. This is a very important development in the rural side of Karnataka.
Meanwhile, UGC also approved Mumbai University for its distance learning courses. This is a great initiative for students who are unable to pursue higher education in regular mode.
These days many colleges and institutes offer distance learning courses. Among them, there are many fake universities listed by UGC who fools the students and lures them in their trap by fake placement promises. Students need to be very careful while applying for these courses and must cross-check all the details. UGC by approving 14 higher education institutes for distance and open learning has given a chance to the students to pursue higher education who are unable to do so in regular mode. This will also increase the employability rate.
