UGC has given permission to Sri Dharmasthala Manjunateshwara College, Ujire to begin three professional undergraduate courses from this academic year. Sri Dharmasthala Manjunateshwara College is among the 18 colleges that are selected by UGC in Karnataka. It is also the only UGC aided college in Dakshin Kannada district.
The three professional UG courses that have been allowed by UGC are Retail and Supply Chain under the commerce department, Digital Media and Film Making under Journalism and Mass Communication department, and App development under the Computer Science department.
Sathishchandra S, principal of Sri Dharmasthala Manjunateshwara College said that these courses will be 25% theory-based and 75% practical based. The college has signed MoU with various companies from different fields so that the college can provide better training and exposure to its students.
The college receives Rs 1.87 crore for each of these courses from UGC. Admissions for these three professional undergraduate courses have started and any candidates interested in pursuing these courses can contact the college office.
President of SDME Society, D Veerendra Heggade mentioned that the introduction of these professional undergraduate courses in the rural colleges was very necessary as it will help the students from the rural areas to be at par with the students belonging from the urban areas of the state.
