Mangalore University’s 34th Annual Convocation was held at Mangalagangotri on Wednesday.Renowned novelist S.L. Bhyrappa, cardiologist C.N. Manjunath and Chairman of AJ Group of Institutions A.J. Shetty will be presented with honorary doctorate.

Mr. Bhyrappa is a great novelist with more than 25 novel. Some of his novels have the unique distinction of seeing as high as 48 reprints within a short span of time after publication. And his writings are now Indian

films.

Dr. Manjunath is the Director of Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences and Research, Bengaluru. He is a renowned cardiovascular surgeon. He has been instrumental in mobilising Rs. 25 crores from charitable and philanthropic organisations to establish a Poor Patients Corpus Fund. Mr Shetty is an entrepreneur, who has established small scale industries to manufacture automobile spare parts and cashew products, to cater to the local needs. These industries have helped in creating jobs to a large number of poor and needy persons. He is managing several institutions, especially in the field of medical sciences and allied fields.

V. K. Saraswat, member, NITI Aayog, and former Director General of Defence Research and Development Organisation will deliver the convocation address. Minister for Higher Education, and Pro-Chancellor of the University T. B. Jayachandran will confer the degrees.

A release from the university said that it would award 55 doctor of philosophy degrees, 39 gold medals and 72 cash prizes.
