All the affiliated schools have been directed by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) to prepare a mission statement before June 7. The mission statement should be published not only on all the official documents but also on the official website of the school.
According to CBSE there is a central government directive that require all schools to have one,” containing the goals to be achieved by their institutions, while the nation approaches the 75th year after independence in 2022.”
In the opinion of CBSE there is a rational behind the move as the mission statement was a crucial point of the existence of the schools.” When schools are building and working to sustain their image, one of the most important considerations is their mission. A well thought out and well drafted mission statement provides them the focus, direction and motivation to achieve excellence through their curriculum,” the board wrote. It further stated that such a statement would represent a school’s values which in turn effected the work culture of the students, teachers and stakeholders. A circular by the CBSE added,” CBSE therefore advises all school heads to do the needful for the mission statement to be prominently displayed on the home page of their school website.”
There are quite a few schools in the city that have a mission statement on their websites and their prospectus. The CBSE advice to these schools is to further develop the statement by taking on board all the stakeholders. The CBSE said,” The mission to be achieved by the school demands collective effort of the teachers and should be developed in consultation with them.” The CBSE advocates that the principals should convene a meeting of the stakeholders and take up certain issues to raise awareness about their roles in the school.
