Nursing Council Proposal To Allow Arts and Commerce Students To Pursue B.Sc Nursing

The Indian Nursing Council is currently asking stakeholders to send in their complaints and comments on the new proposed changes in the B.Sc Nursing programme. As per the proposal, Commerce, Arts and Science students will all be eligible to pursue the course in India.

B.Sc Nursing Recent Proposal

In a recent draft that has been released by the Indian Nursing Council (INC), students from Arts, Commerce and Science backgrounds will be able to pursue the B.Sc Nursing programme. The Council had suggested the change right their decision to cease the General Nursing and Midwifery Course.

Currently, those aspiring to pursue the 4-year B.Sc Nursing course in India must belong to the science stream. The Council has allowed the stakeholders to revert back with complaints or comments with the proposed change at bscsyllabus@gmail.com by 24th January 2020.

The Indian Nursing Council has released the proposed draft on the official website for those interested in reading through the changes. As per the draft for the revised syllabus for B.Sc Nursing programme, aspirants from Commerce, Arts and Science streams will be able to enrol under any one of the B.Sc Nursing colleges in India.

Earlier in 2019, the Council had declared that the General Nursing and Midwifery Course will no longer be offered in Nursing colleges in India after 2021.

The revised eligibility for the B.Sc Nursing programme proposed by INC states that the aspirants must have cleared their class 12 board examinations from one of the recognised board of education, i.e. CBSE, ICSE, SSCE, HSCE or AISSCE. Moreover, candidates will be required to have obtained a minimum aggregate score of 45% in all elective subjects in class 12 along with clearing the English.

Aspirants who will be completing their course from the National Institute of Open School and State Open School will also be eligible for the course, states the proposed draft. Students who have completed ANM or RNM will also be allowed to apply for the course. However, candidates who fall under these categories will be required to have obtained a minimum aggregate score of 50% in the qualifying exam.
